This page explains how TheMacPost reports, writes and corrects its stories. If a story falls short of it, tell us at corrections@themacpost.com.
Who writes our stories
Every story is written by a named person, and every byline links to that writer’s page with their background. We don’t publish stories under made-up names or a generic staff byline.
Sources
We link to the original source wherever we can: Apple’s own announcements, court filings, regulatory documents, company statements and the publication that first reported a story. When we build on someone else’s reporting, we credit them by name and link to them.
We use anonymous sources only when the information matters and the person would face real consequences if named. We know who they are, and we tell readers why we’re not naming them.
Rumors and leaks
A lot of Apple news starts as a rumor. When we report one, the headline and the first paragraph make clear it isn’t confirmed, and we say who it comes from and how reliable that source has been in the past. When a rumor turns out to be wrong, we say that too.
Opinion
Opinion lives in Editorials, and every Editorial is labelled as one. News stories, Features and How-To guides stick to what can be shown or sourced.
Reviews
We test products ourselves before we review them, and we use them the way you would. Some review units are bought and some are loaned by the company that makes them. Loaned units go back when we’re done. No company sees a review before it’s published or gets a say in what it says. Embargoes set by companies decide when a review goes live, never what’s in it.
Deals, affiliate links and sponsored posts
Some links on TheMacPost earn us a commission when you buy something. Posts that contain affiliate links say so at the top, and those links are marked for search engines as well. Commissions never decide which products we recommend.
Sponsored posts are paid for by a company. If we run one, it carries a “Sponsored” label and names the sponsor at the top. Advertisers have no influence over the rest of our coverage.
Use of AI
Our stories are reported and written by people. We may use AI tools for routine help, such as transcribing an interview or checking a spec sheet, and the writer checks anything those tools produce. When AI plays a larger part in a story, we say so at the end of it. We don’t publish AI-generated images as if they were real photos.
Headlines and images
Headlines should match the story underneath them. We don’t promise something the article doesn’t deliver. Images come from the companies we cover, from our own photography or from licensed sources, and we credit them where needed.
Updates and corrections
When a story changes in a meaningful way after it’s published, it shows an “Updated” time. Factual mistakes are corrected and noted at the end of the story. The details are on our Corrections page.
Ownership
TheMacPost is independently owned and operated by Ali Salman Zia. No company or investor has a say in what we publish.
