Software

Apple’s software story runs from the original Mac OS in 1984 through Mac OS X in 2001 to iPhone OS in 2007, which became iOS. Today one family of systems runs everything: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS.

Apple previews them at WWDC each June and ships them in September, and since 2025 they share year-based numbers. Version 26 brought the Liquid Glass redesign, and iOS 27, released in September 2026, brought the rebuilt Siri. We cover updates, betas, new features and how to use them.
