Here’s what’s new in iOS 27.2, from a smarter Siri to Apple Pencil on iPhone Duo

iOS 27.2 is here with a smarter Siri, and something special for iPhone Duo.

Apple released iOS 27.2 earlier this week, the first major update to iOS 27 since it launched in September, and it brings a plethora of changes to Siri, Messages, Photos, and more. But if you own an iPhone Duo, this update is a bigger deal for you than anyone else.

What’s new for iPhone Duo

The iPhone Duo now supports Apple Pencil, something that Apple touted at the launch event, and it makes the handset significantly different from any other foldable on the market. Apple Pencil support is available for the inner and the outer display as well. It’s the first time an iPhone has officially supported the Pencil, and it turns the Duo’s inner display into a proper notepad and a sketchbook.

The Duo also gets Edge Light, which lights up your face during video calls, and Siri on the Duo can now remember context from your earlier conversations.

Siri AI gets smarter

Siri AI on the iPhone 15 Pro and all newer models can now recall past conversations, so you don’t have to repeat yourself. It can also pull information from more places for better context and suggestions, including photos sent in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and your Safari history and Reading List.

There’s a new Excluded Apps setting that lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and Suggestions can see, and you can now select and copy just part of a Siri response.

Siri AI is now also available in more languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. It’s still not available in the EU or mainland China, though, so some users residing in these parts would have to wait for clearance.

Everything else that’s new in iOS 27.2

  • Messages: Suggestions can now act on what you’re talking about, like adding a dinner plan straight to Calendar.
  • Photos: Shared Albums can now edit captions and comments, skip duplicate photos, and remind you before an album expires.
  • AI image labels: SynthID watermarking helps identify images made or edited with AI in Photos and Image Playground.
  • Apple TV: Simple Profiles give everyone in the house their own recommendations.
  • FaceTime: You can add a sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
  • Podcasts: The Home tab splits into New Episodes and Continue Playing.
  • Games: The Friends tab shows why someone is suggested and what your friends have been playing.
  • Apple Music: It gets a new icon and branding.

How to update to iOS 27.2

iOS 27.2 is available for every iPhone model that is compatible with iOS 27. To install the update, launch the Settings app, head over to General > Software Update and download the latest version. If you’re still on iOS 26, Apple has also released iOS 26.7.2 with security fixes as well.
