Apple announced the original MacBook Neo back in March of 2026 at its spring event. The budget Mac became instantly popular among many users, and today, we’re hearing that the company could release the second iteration in early 2027.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claims that Apple will release the MacBook Neo 2 in the first half of 2027. Gurman has also previously shared what the new version will bring to the table, including an A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM, and new colors.

The entry-level MacBook is the perfect choice for students and casual users, and an upgraded chip would give them a little headroom for all the latest features and multitasking.

The bigger upgrade might actually be the jump from 8GB to 12GB of RAM, since Apple Intelligence leans heavily on memory, and that 50 percent boost could decide how well the cheapest Mac keeps up with Apple’s AI features over the next few years.

The MacBook Neo 2 news comes right after Apple refreshed the M6 iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro on Tuesday, and ahead of its Pro and tell event on October 28, where the touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is expected to take the stage. From the MacBook Neo at the bottom to a touchscreen Pro at the top, Apple’s Mac lineup is going through its biggest shake-up in years.
