Touch ID is the biggest compromise Apple made with the iPhone Duo, and it’s already testing a fix. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says iPhone Duo 2 prototypes hide Face ID under the outer display, which would take care of the complaints. Apple is also exploring an Action button, which would bring the foldable much closer to the Pro models in terms of functionality.
Gurman also expects the iPhone Duo 3, likely due in 2028 if Apple sticks to its yearly release cycle, to have a slightly bigger inner screen of around 8 inches. A telephoto camera is on Apple’s list too, but Gurman says it’s hard to fit into something this thin.
Prototypes don’t always ship, so treat the Duo 2 part as likely, not certain.
