The iPhone Duo just launched, and it’s already creating a negative buzz among some users on social media and Reddit. There have been various reports of the iPhone Duo cracking, and the crack begins from the middle of the screen.
A YouTuber who goes by the name of CuriousHagi was able to replicate the same issue on his iPhone Duo with a series of durability tests. When he pulled the device apart to find the reason, it was revealed that the hinge’s design is quite complex. It houses a gear-like central hinge and two other types of linking hinges.
One of the links in the middle breaks, which appears to be thinner than the links on the bottom. It breaks from its weakest point, which is generally the case with moving parts. The links basically get caught in the support plate.
We will wait for more reports on the Duo’s screen and see if Apple has some sort of fix in place to accommodate the affected iPhone users.
