OLED MacBook Pro to feature a ‘revamped hinge’ to handle touch load

Apple’s new high-end MacBook Pro redesign is coming in a matter of hours, and Mark Gurman has shared his final expectations with some pretty interesting details.

Less than 20 hours from now, Apple will reveal its redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED display and touch controls. Gurman says that the OLED MacBook Pro will feature a “revamped hinge” that is sturdier, to bear touch controls without wobbling the screen.

The sturdier hinge makes sense, as touch input requires pushing the screen back, even just a bit, and it could alter the preset position. Gurman also stated that the touchscreen MacBook Pro will have a slightly thinner case, thinner bezels, and the machine would be lighter than the current model.

Gurman’s focus on the hinge is ironic, given how iPhone Duo hinges are causing the display to crack.

We also expect the OLED MacBook Pro to bring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips to the mix for enhanced performance and efficiency.

If Apple gets the hinge right, it could matter more than the touchscreen itself, because a screen that wobbles every time you tap it would undo the whole point of making the Mac touch-friendly.
