The iPhone 20 Pro may lose a button you use every day

The iPhone 20 Pro might drop the Action button, according to the leaker Instant Digital on Weibo. With the Camera Control button around, there’s little need for an Action button, and we’ve gone through that. However, Apple would allow the Camera Control button to be a little more modified.

The Camera Control button would stay for good, serving a dual purpose of controlling the Camera and hiding the Action button. A normal press still opens the camera, but a long press would do what the Action button does now. So you keep the feature but lose a separate button going forward.

It has already happened if you’re not familiar. The iPhone Duo does not have an Action button, and some people missed it. Apple seems to be merging the two buttons from this point forward.

The change would be part of the 20th anniversary redesign, alongside quad-curved edges and bigger screens. Do you think it’s a fair trade to lose the Action button but not the functionality, or is it a downgrade and a complete demise of a dedicated Mute switch?
