Does the touchscreen MacBook Pro work with Apple Pencil?

No, the new touchscreen MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display doesn’t work with Apple Pencil. Apple didn’t announce the feature on stage, and the company’s tech specs page also doesn’t mention Apple Pencil support. So touch on the MacBook Pro is finger-only.

Apple also hasn’t shared any thoughts on whether it plans to bring Apple Pencil support to the touchscreen MacBook. The company did announce that the iPhone Duo would get Apple Pencil support later in the year with iOS 27.2, and it did, which suggests no such support is planned for the MacBook for now.

Since Apple brought Apple Pencil support to the iPhone, it wouldn’t have been weird if it did the same with the MacBook Pro. My guess is that Apple wants to keep a line between the Mac and the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil is the main reason creatives buy an iPad Pro, and putting it directly on the MacBook Pro would make the iPad a much harder sell.

If you want to use an Apple Pencil with your Mac, Sidecar with an iPad is one way to go about it. However, Apple says that it’s “only getting started” with touch on the Mac, so Pencil support could become a reality, but there’s no sign of it yet.
